During the Holiday season it is very easy to fall off the wagon.  Let’s face it we get busy and often our exercise program and diet suffers. With all the food and drinks it’s easy to pack on a few pounds around the holidays.  With this challenge we are going fight to not only maintain a healthy weight throughout the holidays, but to lose weight and come out healthier. So let’s strap on the gloves come out fighting and BEAT THE BIRD!

How it works:  The average 20lb turkey fully cooked is a whopping 14,000 calories. Now, of course, most of us will not eat an entire turkey. However we do consume a lot more calories this time of year. So to combat the extra food, throughout the month of November we are going to try to burn off an entire turkey. Each week we have a goal of burning 3,500 calories- about 500 calories per day- to reach a total of 14,000 calories by Thanksgiving Day.

How to get started: See the lobby display for details. All are encouraged to participate, even if you’re not here all month!

How to calculate your Calories:  There are a few ways to keep track of the calories that you burn. There is a list on the display table that will give you the average calories burned in a particular exercise format; for example, how many calories you burn in a 30 minute cardio session, or in a strength training class.  You can also track your calories with a heart rate monitor.  At the end of the month we will calculate the total calories burned throughout November to see if you BEAT THE BIRD!
