On Tuesday March 10th, phase 2 of the remodel project will begin. Members will need to enter the club through an entrance that will be a few feet to the left of the current front door. This will be necessary as phase 2 includes work on the current entrance and lobby area. This phase will take about 5-6 weeks to complete. There will be a need to close the club early for a few days. We do not know yet when those days will be or how early, but will probably be a couple hours earlier than normal; we will post the specifics as soon as we have it confirmed. Remember that studio C next to Murphy's pub is available for stretching and floor exercises when not used by a trainer. Thank you for your patience.

What is Yin Yoga? - by Tami Hans.
Offered Sun. 4:00-5:30 PM, Mon. 7:30-9:00 PM, & Fri. 4:00-5:15 PM
The Science behind the stillness. Most forms of yoga today are "Yang in Nature...."dynamic, active and full of energy". They are designed to get the body "revved up". While this is a very important part of keeping the body healthy and strong, it works only the muscular half of our body; or the "Yang" tissues. Yin Yoga is specifically designed to exercise the other half, the deeper "Yin" tissues of our ligaments, joints, deep fascial networks and to regain space and strength in the joints. The science that explains the usefulness of this practice lies in the time required for certain tissues of the body to release and relax. Yin poses are held anywhere from two to five minutes because that is how long it takes for the fibers of the connective tissues in a joint to release and lengthen. For the first two minutes of any pose, the body is trying to maintain integrity of shape through muscular effort. After a certain period of time, relaxing all muscular use, the connective tissues in a joint let loose and open. Yin Yoga challenges the mind of its practitioners to learn how to relax deeply and let go into their sensations.

Metabolism refers to all the physical and chemical processes in the body that convert or use energy. Food is so much more than the delicious things you eat; it is the fuel that keeps the body working. All body processes require energy, from digestion, to pumping the heart, to breathing. If too much food is consumed and your metabolism cannot convert it all to energy, then it gets stored as fat. If you consume less than your body needs, it relies on fat stores to make up the rest of the energy requirements. Basal metabolic rate, or BMR, is the minimum number of calories your body needs to function in a completely rested state. That is a baseline measurement, because when you add walking, moving and activities of daily living, that caloric requirement increases. To calculate a simple estimate of what your BMR is, multiply your weight in pounds by 10 if you are female and by 11 if you are male. Would you like to know your Metabolic Rate? Our MetaCheck Metabolic Rate Test is a simple, 10 minute breath test. During the test, the air you breathe out is analyzed to determine exactly how much oxygen your body consumed. You will receive a full page printout that will compare your metabolic rate to predicted normal values based on your height, age, weight, & sex. It will also calculate body composition (fat free mass & fat mass) and provide suggested caloric intake based on your metabolic rate.
